Differentiated Gas: Category Education & Awareness

Differentiated gas should command a price premium on account of its environmental benefits and the additional costs incurred by the producer to certify it, but the category has limited market awareness. The industry struggles with limited understanding about the category writ large, methane’s role as a near-term climate forcer, and methane intensity variation across sources. The knowledge gap differs across industries; many producers find that the hyperscalers are often familiar but industrial buyers (steel, chemicals, etc.) would benefit from increased awareness.

Increasing perception and education for the general public may prove useful as well. Some experts have shared that even if a corporate buyer understands the value of differentiated gas, the impact may be lessened because they won’t receive “credit” from the public for the action.
